FONATI KOFFA

Hon. Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa embodies the Liberian story— a profound love for his homeland, humble beginnings, deep moral values, and an unwavering commitment to hard work and service. His journey, from a modest upbringing as the son of a teacher and a soldier, to becoming the Speaker of the 55th Liberian Legislature, reflects his dedication to God, family, and country.
Cllr. Koffa’s legal career began in 1997, practicing law both in Liberia and the United States. He founded the International Law Group (ILG) and was admitted to the Supreme Court Bar of Liberia as Valedictorian of his class. His political career gained momentum when President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed him as Minister of State without Portfolio and Special Prosecutor of the Sable Mining Bribery scandal in 2016.
In 2017, Cllr. Koffa transitioned from his ministerial role to run for the Representative seat in Grand Kru County District 2, a race he won. His leadership and dedication were further recognized when he was elected Deputy Speaker of the 54th Legislature in 2021. By January 2024, his colleagues elected him as Speaker of the 55th Legislature.
As Speaker, Hon. Cllr. Koffa has brought a new culture of openness and transparency to the Liberian Legislature. Leading by example, he declared his assets and encouraged his colleagues to do the same, reinforcing his commitment to accountability and good governance.
